The Newcastle Harness Racing club is a family friendly venue. Children are most welcome at the paceway and we do our utmost to cater to all patrons who attend the paceway. There is no charge for children under 16 to attend the Paceway. For the kids on some of our bigger nights we have giant slides and rock climbing walls.
At Christmas time Santa hands out free show bags and at other times of the year we have colouring in competitions and prizes to give away. The fabulous mini trotters are regular visitors to the paceway. They are a “mini” version of the big horses and drivers with all the equipment being used but on a smaller scale.
The children driving the ponies usually have a strong family back ground in the sport however all children and their parents are welcome to visit the mini trotters at the track to find out more about this exciting sport. The mini trotters set up behind the parade ring adjacent the stables. We also run maxi trot races which is the next level up betwen mini trots and the big horses and the kids are around the 13 to 15 years age.
Families can also visit the Hunter Valley harness racing museum while at the track. The Museum houses many wonderful pieces of memorabilia and harness racing history. Children can move throughout our entire complex but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when in the bar or restaurant area. The paceway is fully fenced and security is in attendance at all meetings.
