Meet the Trainers

Seaham trainer Jenny Sellers says she’s never really chased the limelight available has a harness racing trainer but is thrilled to be part of the Regional Championships Final with LIGHTNING BOB.

Owned and bred with husband Peter, who has also trained in his own right, Saturday night’s final provides their biggest chance at that limelight.

Other significant races that Sellers has competed in as a trainer have been a Breeders Challenge Regional Final (ROLLON GIDGET) and a Golden Guitar Final (HOP HARRIGAN)

They have experienced the highs of following family and close friends through their achievements throughout the industry in major features but this time around it’s their turn.

While not set intentionally set for the series the geldings previous win to last Friday nights qualifier placed him in the right national ratings to be a competitor in the series.

Sellers believes “at his best, LIGHTNING BOB, is equivalent to his final counterparts”.

“The barrier draw is not great (outside the front line) but it is what it is, you take what you get and you deal with it”, Sellers said.

Driver Jake Hughes had a little more confidence than Sellers in last weeks heat with the knowledge of the geldings front running abilities and drawing barrier two was an ideal step towards qualification.

LIGHTNING BOB chances in the original series concept - $1Million Pace - were probably not as great as they are in Saturday nights final but the varied conduct has provided a great opportunity. “While the $1Million Pace was a great we were never going to win that, but this series has provided such a great chance to spread the opportunity to such a varied mix of local trainers”.
