Previously known as the Glenn Tomlin Memorial for the past 20 years honouring the memory of the popular young harness driver taken too soon, this year the series also recognises the contribution of Glenn’s father Bill to the industry after his passing last year.
The series returns in 2021 after COVID-19 forced a hiatus in 2020.
Holding a special place on the Newcastle racing calendar, what started as a way of honouring the memory of a young man with a bright future in harness racing is now today recognised as a major feature race on the Hunter Valley Harness Racing calendar. The Bill & Glenn Tomlin Memorial is the only event designed specifically for horses trained in the Hunter, Newcastle, Central Coast, Tamworth & Taree regions and drivers domiciled in the same regions.
Carrying prizemoney of $10,000 and a sulky donated by Garrards Horse & Hound plus a raft of prizes donated by sponsors Pam Tomlin, Chevalla Park, Noel & Judy Mexon, Ranvet, Carbine Chemicals, The Rug Rack and Barastoc, the Glenn Tomlin Memorial is a highly sought after trophy.
Each year, our race sponsors make this event possible and we cannot understate our gratitude for their continued support. We thank –The McColl Family, Hunter Valley Harness Racing Association, Medowie Lodge, Mantles Landscaping, Mainlec, Newcastle Equine Centre and Glenn’s mates “The Waffle Boys”.
The finalists have been announced and we're set for some great local racing.
